SynMech Technology

What is SynMech

We aim to introduce an innovative magnetogenetic technology that can regulate neural circuit connectivity for therapeutic purposes in treatment-resistant brain disorders. Unlike traditional methods, our approach combines the benefits of optogenetics and magneto-mechanical stimulations, utilizing biocompatible magnetic nanoparticles and bioengineered synaptic mechanosensors to remotely control brain circuits with focused magnetic fields. This approach does not require implantation of invasive devices and has the potential to achieve subcellular resolution in repairing connectivity defects in the brain. Our interdisciplinary consortium of experts in material science, electronics, physiology and clinical fields is working towards developing this cutting-edge technology to promote normalization of neural activity in mouse models of stroke and epilepsy.

partners

The SynMech consortium comprises 7 partners from 3 European countries, with a diverse and interdisciplinary team of established investigators and promising young researches. SynMech is committed to introduce radically new neuro-stimulation technologies and bring them from bench to bedside.
